WANA (Jun 02) – An informed Iranian source has stated that the United States’ written proposal regarding a potential nuclear agreement—regarding the Oman-mediated negotiations—is “fantastical and one-sided,” making it impossible for Iran to consider it a fair or realistic basis for any potential compromise.

According to the source, the latest American offer for a new nuclear deal is deemed “unacceptable” by Tehran.

This development comes after five rounds of indirect talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, mediated by Oman. On Saturday night, Washington announced that it had officially submitted its proposal for a nuclear agreement to Tehran.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that Steve Witkoff, the U.S. chief negotiator, had “sent Iran a detailed and acceptable offer regarding the nuclear agreement,” adding that “it is in Iran’s best interest to accept the proposal.”

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi had announced the visit of Badr al-Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, to Tehran. Araghchi confirmed that the Omani diplomat had delivered the key elements of the U.S. proposal to Iranian officials.

On Sunday, Araghchi provided an update on the status of the negotiations and shared a letter recently conveyed by the U.S. through Oman, adding that Iran’s official response to the letter is currently being prepared.

Russia Today (RT) quoted the informed Iranian source, who has direct knowledge of the negotiations, as saying: “Iran views the U.S. document as far removed from anything that could be considered a fair or realistic foundation for a possible settlement.”

The source added: “Iranian officials were astonished by the overly imaginative and one-sided nature of the proposal, which is completely disconnected from the realities on the ground.”

American officials, particularly after the third round of negotiations, have claimed that Iran—despite being a non-nuclear weapons state and a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)—has no inherent right to enrich uranium. According to their position, if Iran wishes to pursue peaceful nuclear energy, it should procure reactor fuel from third-party countries.

However, Iranian officials have consistently emphasized that Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy and uranium enrichment is non-negotiable. They have reiterated that the Islamic Republic will firmly defend its peaceful nuclear program against any form of aggression.
