WANA (Aug 21) – An Iranian knowledge-based company has developed aseptic and spout-pouch packaging, sterile solutions that enable the long-term storage of food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and hygiene products without preservatives and without the need for cold storage.

Hooman Mortezaeinia, the company’s CEO, explained the background of the idea: “The concept first emerged after visiting a trade fair in Germany, where an Italian company introduced packaging technology that eliminated the need for refrigeration. From that point on, we pursued the localization of this technology in Iran.”

According to him, studies conducted in 2014 by the European Union revealed that 67 percent of liver and digestive disorders were linked to preservatives used in food products. This finding accelerated efforts to design sterile packaging as an alternative. Mortezaeinia added: “Today, this technology has become mandatory across Europe, where liquid and semi-liquid products must be packaged in such containers to remove reliance on cold storage.”

In Iran, the technology has been localized and is produced entirely with domestic raw materials. The company notes that the packaging can be used for a wide range of products, including tomato paste, sauces, purees, jellies, beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, acidic liquids, and oils. A key feature is its complete impermeability, making it a strong substitute for conventional packaging.

In addition to its two flagship products (aseptic and spout-pouch packaging), the company also manufactures capped doy-packs, water bags, and impermeable films. Estimates suggest that producing these items domestically will prevent the annual outflow of $15 million in foreign currency.
