WANA (Jun 09) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, described the nuclear industry as a symbol of national progress, emphasizing that its achievements are tangibly delivered to the public. He announced that the installation of the second ring of the Bushehr nuclear power plant’s reactor has been carried out according to schedule.

Speaking to reporters on Monday (June 9), following a meeting meeting with members of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Eslami stated: “With divine guidance, the leadership of the Supreme Leader, and the tireless efforts of our colleagues, achieving the objectives of the AEOI across its various sectors is certain.”

Referring to Iran’s Seventh Development Plan, he said: “One of our major commitments in this plan is to triple the capacity of the country’s nuclear power plants. Thankfully, implementation has begun, and with continued support, we hope to complete the projects without any delays or interruptions.”

Eslami highlighted the progress of Units 2 and 3 at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, saying: “As the public witnessed, the installation of the second ring of the Unit 2 reactor building began yesterday. The first ring had already been installed, and the concrete pouring for it was successfully completed. The reactor wall is approximately 2.5 meters thick, and the second ring—currently being installed—is about 11 meters high. This process will continue step by step until the structure reaches its final height of 90 meters.”

The Vice President emphasized that these developments are aligned with the set timetable and represent a significant step toward achieving the goals outlined in the Seventh Development Plan.

He added: “This initiative aligns with the Supreme Leader’s long-standing directive—first issued in 2007—to produce 20,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity, a goal that has consistently remained a national priority.”

Eslami continued: “In this phase, a comprehensive blueprint for achieving the 20,000 MW target has been laid out. Field studies have been completed, required systems selected, and the process is being pursued with speed and serious commitment.”

The AEOI chief also underscored the importance of a clear and reliable financial model to fund these initiatives, stating: “It is essential that financial resources be provided in a precise and consistent manner so we can meet our strategic targets in the development of the nuclear industry.”
