International Law Under Assault Conference Opens in Tehran
WANA (Nov 16) – The international conference titled ‘International Law Under Assault: Aggression and Self-Defense officially opened on Sunday, November 16, with the participation of Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
The event, organized by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and hosted by its Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS), gathers specialists, scholars, and policy experts from various countries for a one-day session focused on legal and geopolitical challenges in contemporary global affairs.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, said last week, in connection with the objectives of holding this meeting, that the main focus will be on the military aggression carried out by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran, though the topics will be diverse.

He added that the meeting is not merely intended to explain the aggressive and illegal nature of the actions taken by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran; rather, “we are undertaking an international effort to draw the attention of the global community to a trend that could violate all international norms, standards, and the foundations of international law. The actions of the Israeli regime and the United States were not only directed against an independent state, but also against the principles and rules that have formed the basis of the international community’s shared existence over the past 80 years.”
Baghaei stated that a very clear example of unilateral dominance — and of what is referred to as the “rule-based order” — was witnessed in the course of the military aggression by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran. “Therefore, this issue concerns the entire international community and all states,” he said.
The senior Iranian diplomat continued: “Signs of the continuation of this highly dangerous approach can also be observed in other parts of the world; in addition to West Asia, we are seeing patterns of conduct based on the use of force in Latin America and the Caribbean as well.”
