Iran Adds 11 Aircraft to Boost Domestic Air Travel
WANA (Oct 05) – Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) has announced the addition of 11 new aircraft to the country’s air fleet, along with a helicopter and five planes with fewer than 19 seats, in a move aimed at improving air service quality and expanding domestic transportation.
Hossein Pourfarzaneh, head of the CAO, made the announcement during the inauguration of 13 transportation projects in the roads and urban development sector, valued at $124.8 million. He said the initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the capacity and quality of air transport across Iran.
The new additions bring 2,532 new flight seats to the national fleet, significantly increasing the country’s air travel capacity. Pourfarzaneh highlighted the importance of these projects in expanding domestic flights and strengthening connections between the three main islands and other regions of Iran.
He acknowledged some challenges in launching flights to Kurdistan and West Azerbaijan provinces but assured that the projects will continue, with further expansion of the air network expected in the near future.
Pourfarzaneh also praised the technical and operational efforts of aviation staff and noted that since the start of Iran’s 14th government, 5,100 seats have been added to the fleet.
He emphasized that the main goal of these initiatives is to upgrade aviation infrastructure and improve flight quality to meet the diverse needs of passengers. He also mentioned the development of regional flights using smaller aircraft alongside narrow-body and wide-body planes, a strategy that has already been implemented in the three major islands.
