Iran and Armenia Strengthen Transit Routes and Pursue Gulf-to-Black Sea Railway
WANA (Aug 19) – Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh-Malvajerd, announced new agreements between Tehran and Yerevan. As part of these plans, a second bridge will be built at the Nordooz border crossing to ease truck traffic, and border terminals will be upgraded. A comprehensive package to reduce transit costs for Iranian truckers is also being finalized.
Sadegh-Malvajerd further stated that the strategic project of connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea by rail is being pursued in cooperation with Iran, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. This corridor, once completed, could play a significant role in linking the Middle East with Europe.
She also noted that agreements have been reached in the fields of air transport and logistics. By leveraging Iran’s ports in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, the two countries aim to facilitate transit for Armenia and improve connections to European markets.
According to the minister, engineering and technical cooperation will also be expanded. Iranian companies already active in Armenia’s construction and infrastructure projects are set to broaden their services in areas such as building, materials, and transportation technologies.
