Iran and Azerbaijan Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Ties and Regional Stability
WANA (Jan 30) – Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have reiterated their shared determination to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation on regional and multilateral issues, with particular emphasis on developments in the Caucasus.
In a telephone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reviewed the current state of relations between Tehran and Baku and exchanged views on key regional developments.
The two sides also revisited agreements reached during Araghchi’s official visit to Baku in December, underlining their mutual interest in maintaining political dialogue and advancing practical cooperation based on shared interests.
During the call, Iran’s foreign minister outlined recent regional security developments and warned against the destabilizing impact of external interference. He stressed the collective responsibility of regional countries to safeguard peace and stability and to prevent any third parties from exploiting their territory or airspace to threaten regional security.
For his part, the Azerbaijani foreign minister expressed concern over rising tensions in the region and reaffirmed Baku’s position that Azerbaijan will not allow its territory or airspace to be used for any military action against Iran. He emphasized his country’s consistent stance in favor of regional stability and the need to avoid rhetoric or actions that could contribute to further instability.
Bayramov also underscored that existing challenges should be resolved exclusively through dialogue and diplomatic channels, calling for continued close consultations among regional states.
