Iran and France FMs Hold Phone Talks on Regional Developments
WANA (Mar 15) – France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot held a phone conversation Saturday night with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss what Tehran described as the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran and the current situation in the region.
During the call, Araghchi said the United States and Israel are the main causes of insecurity in the region and the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed the need for all countries to adopt a responsible approach, strongly condemn what he called the aggressors’ criminal attack on Iran, and refrain from actions that could escalate or expand the conflict.
The Iranian foreign minister reaffirmed Iran’s firm determination to defend its sovereignty, dignity, territorial integrity, and national security, adding that Iran’s defensive actions are directed exclusively at the military bases and facilities of the aggressors in the region and should not be interpreted as attacks on regional countries.
Araghchi also stated that the root cause of insecurity across the region, including Lebanon, is the expansionism and aggression of Israel, adding that stability in Lebanon depends on ending the occupation and halting Israeli attacks.
The two foreign ministers also discussed several consular issues during their conversation.
