WANA (Jul 23) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi signed a comprehensive joint economic memorandum of understanding during a high-level summit at Saadabad Palace today, Thursday.

 

The agreements, signed alongside senior officials from both nations, encompass international road freight transport cooperation and broader economic partnerships.

 

Prime Minister Al-Zaidi arrived in Tehran earlier in the day at the head of a high-ranking delegation. He was formally received by President Pezeshkian at the Saadabad Cultural and Historical Complex, where official ceremonies included national anthems, a military guard inspection, and delegation introductions, followed by private bilateral talks.

 

Following the bilateral discussions, officials from both governments executed several key agreements across multiple sectors.

 

Regarding rail infrastructure, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi signed an agreement for the construction of the Khosravi–Khanaqin–Baghdad railway project.

 

In addition, an accord officially establishing Tehran and Baghdad as sister cities was signed by Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Seyed Ali Madanizadeh and his Iraqi counterpart.

 

Finally, Iraqi Minister of Finance Faleh Sari Abdashi and Iranian Finance Minister Seyed Ali Madanizadeh executed a memorandum of understanding covering public administration, education, and human resources development.
