Iran and Pakistan Can Lay the Foundation for a New Regional Security Framework
WANA (Jul 03) – Acting Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Seyed Majid Ebnolreza said Iran and Pakistan are capable of establishing a new regional security framework based on cooperation among neighboring countries, during a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Ebnolreza thanked Munir for attending the farewell ceremony for the late leader of the Islamic Republic and described Tehran-Islamabad relations as deep-rooted, strategic, and founded on shared historical, cultural, and religious ties.
He also expressed appreciation for the support shown by the Pakistani government, people, and armed forces toward Iran, saying the Islamic Republic would never forget the solidarity of its friends during difficult times.
Referring to recent regional developments, Ebnolreza said that despite Iran’s long experience with what he described as U.S. breaches of commitments, Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding at the request of friendly neighboring countries and as a demonstration of goodwill. He warned, however, that any violation of the ceasefire would be met with a strong and appropriate response from Iran.
The acting defense minister described Israel as the primary source of insecurity and instability in the region, saying its actions in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran demonstrate the need for greater unity and coordination among Muslim countries to confront the threat.
He also argued that the presence of foreign forces has deepened mistrust and insecurity, adding that the recent war exposed the failure of security arrangements dependent on external powers and showed that lasting regional security can only be achieved through cooperation and mutual understanding among regional states.
Ebnolreza stressed the importance of expanding defense and military cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad, saying closer ties would strengthen mutual trust, improve security along the shared border, help combat terrorist groups, and reduce opportunities for destabilizing outside actors to interfere in the region.
He further thanked Pakistan for its supportive stance toward Iran following the recent imposed war, saying Tehran is ready to open a new chapter of defense, security, and strategic cooperation with Islamabad.
Pakistan Army Chief: Pakistani Nation Stands With the Iranian People
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, thanked Iran for its hospitality and offered condolences over the loss of the leader of the Islamic Revolution, senior military commanders, and a number of Iranian civilians, expressing sympathy with the Iranian government, armed forces, and people.
Highlighting the deep historical, civilizational, and brotherly ties between Iran and Pakistan, Munir said the recent terrorist attack had deeply saddened the Pakistani people, emphasizing that solidarity with Iran extends beyond officials and is shared by the Pakistani nation as a whole.
He also referred to the late Iranian defense minister’s visit to Islamabad and its achievements, describing bilateral defense and military cooperation as steadily expanding. Munir said cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad across various defense sectors is progressing positively and will continue with determination from both sides.
