Iran and Pakistan Emphasize Regional Cooperation and Security
WANA (May 26) – During a joint press conference held in Tehran on Monday, May 26, 2025, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian welcomed the ceasefire and peace efforts between Pakistan and India, describing it as a step toward achieving lasting security in the region.
Highlighting the historical and cultural ties between the two countries, Pezeshkian called Pakistan one of Iran’s most important neighbors and stated: “Maintaining lasting security and fostering friendly relations with our neighbors are among the shared interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He also emphasized the shared perspectives of Iran and Pakistan on regional issues, developments in the Islamic world, and international affairs. He noted that both sides had agreed in the meeting to expand political, economic, and cultural cooperation, and to implement previous agreements.

The Iranian president identified joint border security and combating terrorist groups as major priorities for both Tehran and Islamabad, stating: “The stability and peace of the Pakistani people are considered part of Iran’s vital interests.”
Pezeshkian stressed the importance of peaceful dialogue in resolving regional conflicts—particularly between Pakistan and India—adding, “Undoubtedly, the peaceful resolution of disputes is a prerequisite for sustainable development and regional security.”
Referring to the crisis in Gaza, he strongly criticized ongoing atrocities and the support of Western countries for Israel, and called on Islamic nations to provide full support for the Palestinian people.
During the same event, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described Iran as a “second home” for the people of Pakistan and called his visit to Tehran a historic moment. He thanked President Pezeshkian for his supportive phone call and concern over the situation in South Asia, describing it as a sign of brotherly ties between the two countries.
Sharif highlighted the deep-rooted cultural and civilizational connections between Iran and Pakistan and expressed his government’s determination to boost economic cooperation with Tehran. He also reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to resolve issues with India, including the Kashmir dispute, through dialogue and within the framework of UN resolutions—while warning that any aggression would be met with a firm response.
Condemning the deaths of over 50,000 civilians in Gaza, Sharif urged the international community to act toward a lasting ceasefire. He concluded by expressing Pakistan’s full support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy.
