Iran and Pakistan to Launch 24-Hour Border Crossings
WANA (May 27) – Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni announced that several border crossings between Iran and Pakistan will soon operate 24/7 to enhance cross-border trade and cooperation.
Following a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Mohsen Naqvi, Momeni said the two-day talks covered key issues including border security, counterterrorism, drug trafficking, and the transit of Arbaeen pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq via Iran.
He stated that agreements reached in the meeting could mark a new chapter in Iran-Pakistan relations, with expectations of expanded cooperation in all sectors. Both sides also discussed developing border markets and increasing customs operating hours.
Momeni noted that the governor of Sistan and Baluchestan has been assigned to hold follow-up meetings with Pakistani officials to implement the new measures.
Regarding the Arbaeen pilgrimage, both countries agreed to hold a trilateral meeting with Iraq’s interior minister in Tehran or Mashhad in the near future to finalize border coordination and logistics for pilgrims.
Minister Naqvi described the recent talks as the start of a new phase in bilateral ties, emphasizing the depth and detail of discussions and expressing optimism about future cooperation.
