Iran and Qatar Foreign Ministers Hold Phone Talks
WANA (Nov 13) – Iran and Qatar’s foreign ministers held a phone conversation on Thursday, expressing concern over rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and emphasizing the importance of continued regional efforts to maintain peace and stability.
During the call, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi spoke with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani on bilateral relations and regional developments. Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening ties in all areas of mutual interest.
The ministers also discussed the latest developments in Gaza and the recent U.S. draft resolution at the UN Security Council, agreeing to continue consultations to protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination.
The recent border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan began in early October 2025, on October 9, when Pakistan conducted airstrikes on Kabul, Khost, Jalalabad, and Paktika provinces. Pakistan stated that these operations targeted Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) bases, and the Pakistani army announced that more than 200 Taliban fighters were killed.
These attacks were met with a response from Afghanistan, followed by ground clashes in border areas such as Kurram, Chaman, Spin Boldak, and Kandahar.
Following these tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran repeatedly called on both sides to exercise restraint and resolve differences through dialogue and diplomacy.
Araghchi had also held phone calls with his counterparts in both countries, expressing Iran’s readiness to help reduce tensions and facilitate constructive dialogue between the two brotherly Muslim nations.
