WANA (Apr 14) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares, discussing regional developments and the importance of upholding international law.

During the call, Araghchi expressed appreciation for what he described as the principled and honorable stance of the Spanish government and people in opposing U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran, as well as condemning what he called war crimes committed against the Iranian people. He stated that Spain’s positions in defending international law and human values had been recognized and praised by both the Iranian nation and the international community and would not be forgotten.

Araghchi also outlined what he described as war crimes committed by the United States and Israel during 40 days of military aggression against Iran, emphasizing the responsibility of all countries to condemn such actions and hold those responsible accountable.

He further noted that Iran, adopting what he called a responsible approach, has responded positively to mediation efforts aimed at establishing a ceasefire and ending the conflict in the Middle East. However, he stressed that achieving this goal requires the United States to fulfill its commitments to halt the war and stop Israeli military actions in Lebanon.

For his part, Albares reaffirmed that support for international law, human values, and opposition to war are fundamental principles of Spain’s foreign policy. He emphasized that Spain had, from the outset, considered military attacks against Iran to be illegal.

The Spanish foreign minister also welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire and highlighted the importance of all parties adhering to it, while focusing on diplomatic efforts to restore lasting stability and security in the region.
