WANA (Sep 10) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Tunisia expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence and mass killings in Palestine and strongly condemned the expansion of Israeli aggression and attacks in the region. They also denounced Israel’s recent terrorist attack against Qatar and expressed solidarity with the country.

 

Seyed Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, who is visiting Tunisia for talks with senior officials, met this afternoon with his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali El-Neffati. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the growing bilateral relations and discussed ways to expand cooperation in key areas including economy, trade, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, and culture.

 

Both ministers emphasized the importance of establishing direct flights between the two countries, which would significantly boost economic and tourism ties, and agreed to hold the next session of the joint economic commission soon in Tehran.

In addition, they stressed the urgent need to stop the mass killings in Gaza, provide immediate humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, and hold Israeli perpetrators accountable for their crimes.

 

The Tunisian foreign minister also highlighted his country’s stance against illegal attacks by the US and Israel on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and reaffirmed the right of Iran and other signatories of the Non-Proliferation Treaty to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. He praised Iran’s responsible approach in its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and underlined the importance of constructive diplomacy by all parties.

 

Araqchi began his diplomatic visit on Tuesday, September 8, traveling first to Egypt and then to Tunisia. In Cairo, he met with the president and foreign minister of Egypt and signed an agreement to resume cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency in the presence of Director-General Rafael Grossi. Upon arrival in Tunisia early this morning, he was welcomed by senior officials and later held talks with President Kais Saied.
