WANA (Oct 04) – A spokesman for Iran’s Army said the military is working to increase the range and speed of all missiles in its arsenal, adding that future generations of missiles will enter service with enhanced capabilities.

Brigadier General Mohammad Akrami-Nia said lessons learned from the recent 40-day war had led the Army to conclude that it needed to extend the range of its missiles, a process that is already underway.

He added that significant progress had also been made in increasing missile speed and precision, with future generations of Army missiles expected to incorporate these capabilities.

The Army spokesman described the performance of missiles used during the war as effective, including ground forces missiles used to strike enemy bases in Kuwait and naval cruise missiles used against enemy vessels.

Akrami-Nia said that because enemy forces are now positioned farther from Iran’s coastline, at distances of up to around 1,000 kilometers, the Army will pursue further increases in missile range and speed to match these conditions.

Asked whether the upgrade program would cover all Army missiles, he said: “Yes, this includes all of our missiles.”
