Iran Becomes Top Five Mining Power with Radar Technology
WANA (Oct 11) – Iranian scientists have successfully developed radar-based mine wall monitoring technology, placing Iran among the top five mining powers worldwide—a major step toward the Supreme Leader’s directive to “replace oil with mining.”
Farshad Moghimi, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, and head of the Organization for Development and Renovation of Iranian Industries (IDRO), announced that the country has achieved advanced radar monitoring of mine walls.
He stated: “With this technology, Iran now ranks among the five leading countries globally in measuring and analyzing the stability of mine walls.”
During a visit to the Center for Development of Information Technology (MEGFA), Moghimi emphasized that IDRO is tasked with developing smart and technologically advanced mining infrastructure using local knowledge and the expertise of young specialists, in line with the Supreme Leader’s guidance to shift focus from oil to mining.
He highlighted the contribution of knowledge-based companies to the project: “MEGFA has utilized radar and artificial intelligence to domestically produce the first mine wall monitoring system in the country. The technology has been piloted at the Angouran lead and zinc mine, showing successful results in boosting efficiency, reducing wall collapse risks, and identifying high-risk zones.”
Moghimi concluded: “IDRO is ready to provide this knowledge-based product to mining companies and the National Organization for Mine Development and Renovation for nationwide deployment.”
This achievement represents a significant leap for Iran’s mining sector, combining local innovation, AI, and radar technology to enhance safety and productivity in the industry.
