Iran Begins Development of One of the World’s Largest Gas Fields
WANA (Oct 07) – The project manager of the North Pars Gas Field announced the start of development operations for the independent offshore field, following the signing of a contract to construct the jacket for its first phase.
Amin Khoramabadi, project manager for the North Pars Gas Field Development Plan, said the execution period of the jacket construction project is estimated at 11 months. He explained that the scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction, transportation, and installation of the structure.
According to Khoramabadi, the main jacket will weigh about 750 tons, and with all accessories, the total weight will reach approximately 2,000 tons. Once completed, it will be installed at a depth of around 13 meters at its designated offshore site.

New Gas and Oil Reserves Discovered in Iran
WANA (Oct 06) – Iran’s Oil Minister announced the discovery of substantial gas and oil reserves in the “Pazan” field, located in the southern part of Fars province. The field, with an estimated 10 trillion cubic feet of gas, is expected to play a key role in addressing the country’s future energy deficits. Speaking […]
He noted that the project highlights the growing domestic capabilities in offshore engineering and construction. The North Pars field, discovered in 1967, was initially scheduled for development in the 1970s but was later halted.
With updated studies and the use of modern technology, its development plan has now resumed under the strategic direction of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
Located about 120 kilometers southeast of Bushehr Port, the North Pars Gas Field lies 10–15 kilometers offshore at a reservoir depth of 4,000 meters. The field spans roughly 500 square kilometers and holds an estimated 1,668 billion cubic meters of gas in place, of which 1,337 billion cubic meters are recoverable.
Based on the latest reservoir studies, once fully developed, North Pars will have a production capacity of about 4 billion cubic feet of rich gas per day, equivalent to 113 million cubic meters daily — positioning it among the largest independent gas fields in the world.
