Iran, Brazil Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Developments in Phone Call
WANA (Mar 26) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Mauro Vieira, Foreign Minister of the Federative Republic of Brazil, held a phone conversation to discuss developments in West Asia and the consequences of recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran.
Brazil’s foreign minister condemned the military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, offering condolences over the deaths of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic and a number of Iranian officials and citizens, and expressed sympathy with the Iranian government and people.
Araghchi outlined the scope of the attacks and actions by the United States and Israel, stating that the military aggression was imposed on Iran in the midst of an ongoing diplomatic process.
He emphasized Iran’s firm determination to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity until its objectives are fully achieved and to make the aggressors regret their actions.
Araghchi also stated that the United States and Israel initiated the war, adding that Iran’s defensive operations against the bases and facilities of the attackers in regional countries fall within the framework of the inherent right to self-defense and should not be interpreted as a violation of the sovereignty of host nations.
He further noted that regional countries are obligated, under international law and principles of good neighborliness, to prevent the use of their territory and facilities by the United States and Israel for acts of aggression against Iran, warning that failure to do so would entail international responsibility and pose serious risks to regional peace and stability.
The Brazilian foreign minister expressed deep concern over the consequences of violations of international law and stressed the importance of respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the fundamental principles of international law.
