Iran Calls for Emergency Meeting of IAEA Board of Governors
WANA (Feb 28) – Iran has called for an emergency meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency following what it described as continued acts of aggression by the United States and Israel.
In a letter addressed to Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, Iran’s Permanent Mission in Vienna requested the immediate convening of a special session of the Board.
In a post published on X, the Iranian mission stated that what it called “baseless allegations, hostile threats, and unlawful actions” by the aggressors against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program must be urgently addressed by the Board of Governors.
According to Iranian officials, on Saturday, March 9, the United States and Israel carried out what Tehran described as an aggressive and illegal attack in violation of the UN Charter.
Following the attack, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that, in response to what it called hostile and criminal actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the first wave of large-scale Iranian missile and drone strikes had been launched toward Israeli-controlled territories.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also said on Saturday, following what it described as an air operation by the “brutal U.S. regime in cooperation with the corrupt Zionist regime” against locations inside Iran, that the country’s armed forces had begun delivering a decisive response to those actions.
Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump posted a video on his social media platform Truth Social, which appeared to have been prepared in advance, announcing: “We launched massive military strikes against Iran.”
The U.S. Department of Defense referred to the operation as “OPERATION EPIC FURY.”
