Iran Calls for International Condemnation of U.S. Military Aggression
WANA (Jun 24) – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Geneva, in an official letter addressed to the UN Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order, has called for the explicit condemnation of the recent U.S. military aggression against Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities.
The letter, drafted in a legal and well-documented tone, emphasizes that the U.S. strike on June 22 against the Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan nuclear sites — all of which are under full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) — constitutes a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law. The attack followed an Israeli strike on June 13.
The Iranian ambassador warned that such acts of aggression “not only target the core principles of the global order but also undermine the Iranian people’s right to live in peace, dignity, and security.” He further stated that these developments signal a dangerous shift from the rule of law to the rule of power, and from multilateralism to unilateralism.
The letter continues: “The failure of responsible institutions to identify and clearly condemn these acts calls into question their legitimacy and impartiality, reducing the international legal order to a hollow shell.”
The ambassador, while expressing appreciation for the independent expert’s previous statement condemning Israel’s war of aggression, requested that the U.S. military aggression be condemned with the same clarity and consistency.
Underscoring the vital role of UN special mandate holders in safeguarding the principles of international law, the letter concludes: “Your principled and courageous leadership will send a clear message to those who violate sovereignty and global peace.”
