Iran, China FMs Meet in Beijing
WANA (May 06) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, who traveled to Beijing at the head of a diplomatic delegation, met Wednesday morning with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
During this meeting, various aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries in different fields, including economic and commercial sectors, as well as the implementation process of existing agreements, were discussed and reviewed.
Strengthening the Strategic Partnership
The Iranian Foreign Minister pointed to the long-standing bonds between the two great civilizations of Iran and China, describing China as a close friend and strategic partner.
He emphasized the Iranian government’s serious resolve to promote strategic and friendly relations within the framework of the Iran-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership based on mutual respect and trust.
“We believe that the strategic partnership and cooperation between the two countries will continue more strongly than in the past under the new circumstances,” Araghchi stated.
Condemning Illegal Actions and Diplomatic Efforts
Araghchi detailed the crimes committed by the U.S. and the Israeli regime against the Iranian nation and the gross violations of humanitarian rights during the forty-day war.
He expressed appreciation for China’s principled position in condemning the violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter by the U.S. and Israel, as well as Beijing’s responsible approach regarding the U.S. misuse of the UN Security Council.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also informed his Chinese counterpart of the latest diplomatic trends and ongoing initiatives to end the war, including the Iran-U.S. negotiation process mediated by Pakistan, stating:
“Just as Iran appeared with authority on the battlefield of self-defense and remains in full readiness to confront any mischief, it is equally serious and steadfast in the arena of diplomacy.”
China’s Support for Iran’s Sovereignty
Wang Yi praised the resistance of the Iranian people against aggressors and Tehran’s responsible approach, particularly Araghchi’s efforts in pursuing the diplomatic process to prevent the escalation of regional tensions. He emphasized China’s firm position in supporting Iran’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security.
The Chinese Foreign Minister clarified that China’s principled position is opposition to the use of force and the continuation of this “illegal war,” which has had damaging consequences not only for Iran but for all nations and people of the region and the world.
He also pointed to the Chinese President’s four-point plan for an immediate and definitive end to the war and the establishment of sustainable peace.
The two ministers concluded by reviewing the status of cooperation projects in the economic and trade sectors and agreed on the continuation of meetings and consultations between senior officials of both countries.
Araghchi: China Sees Elevated Global Standing for Iran
In an interview following his meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Araghchi stated that Chinese officials believe Iran’s global standing has significantly risen following recent conflicts.
He noted that Chinese allies view “post-war” Iran as fundamentally different, having successfully demonstrated its authority and capabilities to the world. Araghchi emphasized that this shift marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Iran and other nations.
He said that the discussions in China covered a comprehensive range of strategic issues, including the conclusion of the war, Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, international sanctions, the status of the Strait of Hormuz, and ongoing negotiations.
