WANA (Jan 15) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi condemned the United States’ interventionist policies against Iran and warned that any new adventurism could destabilize the region and create chaos.

Araghchi made the remarks during a phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on Thursday. The two foreign ministers expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive and all-inclusive relations between their countries, based on the 25-year cooperation agreement, and stressed the determination of both nations’ leaders to further strengthen and expand ties in all areas of mutual interest.

Detailing recent protests in Iran, Araghchi said that the demonstrations, which began peacefully, were diverted into violence after trained terrorist elements entered the gatherings. He emphasized Iran’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens against Daesh-style terrorism, which he said is supported by the Israeli regime and the United States.

Araghchi also appreciated China’s principled stance condemning terrorism and foreign interference in Iran’s internal affairs.

The Iranian foreign minister further condemned the “hypocritical and interventionist” policies of the United States toward Iran, warning against any new adventurism that could lead to instability and unrest in the region.

He also criticized the United States for exploiting economic tools and trade tariffs to pressure developing countries, including Iran and China, and underlined the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation to protect the interests of developing nations.

During the conversation, Wang Yi stressed the importance of all countries adhering to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, adding that the world should not return to an era of “raw force,” and that major powers must act responsibly.

He also highlighted Iran’s significant role in maintaining regional peace and security, emphasizing that China, as a friend of Iran, has always supported Iran’s national sovereignty and security. Wang added that Beijing would continue to defend Iran’s legitimate and rational positions in international forums, including the United Nations Security Council.
