Iran Civil Aviation Organization Condemns Attack on Medical Aircraft
WANA (Mar 30) – The Iran Civil Aviation Organization has strongly condemned what it described as a U.S.-Israeli attack on an Iranian civilian aircraft carrying medicine and medical equipment from several countries.
The aircraft had landed at Mashhad Airport when it was targeted two days ago, according to the organization’s official statement.
The statement emphasized that attacks on civilian aircraft engaged in humanitarian missions constitute a clear violation of international aviation regulations and contradict the principles of humanitarian law.
It further noted that, under the Chicago Convention and the Montreal Convention, any act endangering the safety of civilian aircraft is considered an international criminal offense in the field of aviation.
Additionally, citing Article 52 of the Geneva Conventions Additional Protocol I, the organization stated that attacks on civilian targets—including aircraft transporting humanitarian aid—are classified as war crimes.
The Iran Civil Aviation Organization called on international bodies to urgently investigate the incident, hold those responsible accountable, and take measures to prevent similar threats against civilian aviation in the future.
