WANA (Aug 31) – The Iranian national U21 men’s volleyball team has won the 2025 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship, defeating Italy 3-1 in the final in China. This marks the third time Iran has claimed the U21 world title, having previously won in 2019 and 2023—each time defeating Italy in the final.

 

Iran lost the first set but came back with exceptional performance in the next three sets:

  • Set 1: Italy 25 – 15 Iran
  • Set 2: Iran 25 – 18 Italy
  • Set 3: Iran 25 – 22 Italy
  • Set 4: Iran 25 – 14 Italy

 

Matin Hosseini led the match with 18 points, including consecutive service points in the fourth set that sealed the victory against Italy.

 

The starting lineup for Iran included Ali Mombini, Aryan Mahmoudinejad, Taha Behboodnia, Omran Kokdjili, Matin Hosseini, Armin Ghalichniazi, and Morteza Tabatabai. The team was coached by Reza Momeni Moghadam.

 

Iran’s journey to the title included victories over Poland, Canada, South Korea, Puerto Rico, and Kazakhstan in the group stage, followed by knockout wins against Argentina, China in the quarterfinal, the USA in the semifinal, and finally Italy in the championship match.
