Iran Claims Three More Golds at Asian Wrestling Championships
WANA (Apr 12) – Iran’s wrestling team continued its strong performance at the Asian Freestyle Wrestling Championships, securing two additional gold medals in the final weight categories.
In the 86kg division, Kamran Ghasempour delivered a dominant performance in his first Asian appearance in this weight class. After receiving a first-round bye, he defeated Japan’s Yudai Takahashi 12–2 in the second round, followed by a commanding 11–0 victory over his Turkmen opponent to reach the final.
In the championship bout, Ghasempour faced India’s Mukhul Dahiya and secured a comprehensive 7–0 victory by technical superiority, claiming the gold medal. This marks his first Asian gold in the 86kg category.
In the 92kg category, Mohammadmobin Azimi also captured gold with a dominant run through the bracket. After a first-round bye, he defeated Japan’s Takahashi Ishiguro 9–0, then overcame Kazakhstan’s Azamat Dauletbekov 6–0 to reach the final.
Azimi went on to face Bahrain’s Magomed Sharipov in the final and delivered a commanding 11–0 victory to secure Iran’s third gold medal of the competition.
Amir Hossein Zare, the Iranian wrestler in the 125 kg weight class, secured victory in this match by defeating Bahrain’s Shamil Sharipov, a world bronze medalist, with a 4–0 score. With this win, he claimed the gold medal.
With these results, Iran’s five final weight categories on the day produced three gold medals for Ghasempour, Zare and Azimi, along with bronze medals for Amir Mohammad Yazdani and Ahmad Mohammadnejad. Earlier in the competition, Vali-Zadeh had won gold, Azarpira took silver, and Sina Khalili earned a bronze medal.
