Iran Climbs Three Spots Among World’s Steel Producers
WANA (Nov 22) – Iran has regained its position as the world’s seventh-largest steel producer after a three-place rise in October, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association.
The report shows Iran produced 3.3 million tons of steel in October—a 12% increase compared to the same month last year. Despite this monthly growth, Iran’s cumulative output over the first ten months of 2025 averaged 25.4 million tons, marking a slight 1% decline year-on-year.
Return to Seventh Place Globally
Iran previously held seventh place in March, April, and May 2025, but dropped to tenth in June and remained there through September. In October, however, Iran rebounded with a three-rank jump back to 7th place.
The top global producers for the month were China, India, and the United States, followed by Japan, Russia, South Korea, Iran, Turkey, Germany, and Brazil.
Iran Dominates West Asian Steel Production
Steel-producing countries in West Asia collectively produced 5.4 million tons of steel in October. With Iran accounting for 3.3 million tons, the country represented 61.1% of total regional output.
Overall steel production in West Asia increased 9.2% year-on-year—an expansion largely attributed to Iran’s rising output. The region covered in the report includes Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.
Strongest Production Growth Among Major Producers
Among key steel-producing nations, Iran recorded the highest production growth, rising 12% compared to last October. India, the United States, and Turkey also saw increases.
China, meanwhile, experienced a notable decline of 12.1%, the sharpest drop among the top ten producers.
Global Steel Production Declines
Across 70 reporting countries, global steel output reached 143.3 million tons in October—a 5.9% decrease from the same month in 2024. Total global production for the first ten months of 2025 stood at 1.5176 billion tons, down 2.1% year-on-year.
