Iran Clinches Early Asian U20 Greco-Roman Wrestling Team Title
WANA (Jul 02) – Iran secured the team championship at the Asian U20 Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Thailand after adding another medal on the second day of competition.
The Iranian team had already won three gold medals and one bronze on the opening day. Armin Shamsipour claimed gold in the 55 kg category, Ali Ghariby won gold at 63 kg, and Amirhossein Abdoli took gold at 130 kg, while Amirhossein Nematzadeh earned bronze at 87 kg.
On Thursday, Amirali Heydari added a bronze medal in the 60 kg division, giving Iran enough points to mathematically secure the team title before the tournament concluded.
Iran still has three wrestlers through to the finals, with Mohammad Kazemi (72 kg), Alireza Mohammadhossein (82 kg), and Mirsam Mohammadi (97 kg) set to compete for gold. Mohammad Reza Gholami is also scheduled to wrestle in the 67 kg bronze-medal match.
