WANA (Jun 20) – The Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters has officially announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic, citing blatant US non-compliance with the primary clause of the recently signed peace agreement and continuous ceasefire violations by the Israeli regime.

 

The military headquarters issued a directive stating that the strategic waterway will be closed to all vessels in direct response to the United States’ failure to implement the first clause of the war-ending memorandum of understanding.

 

The decision also comes as a retaliatory measure against ongoing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, which have resulted in the mass displacement and casualties of hundreds of thousands of civilians, alongside Israel’s failure to withdraw its forces from occupied Lebanese territories.

 

Warning of Escalatory Steps

Military officials emphasized that the closure of the global shipping chokepoint marks only the first phase of Iran’s response to the adversaries’ breach of commitments.

 

The statement concluded with a stern warning that if external aggression persists, the armed forces are prepared to execute further planned strategic phases to compel the enemy to adhere to its international obligations.

 

According to the first clause of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Iran and the U.S., which was digitally signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump, in the early hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, any war or military operation must halt, and it also insisted upon the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
