WANA (Apr 09) – Zahra Ershadi, Assistant Minister and Director General for the Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned Costa Rica’s action in leveling accusations against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The Director General emphasized that the decision of the Costa Rican government, which is contrary to international law and norms and appears to have been taken under the influence and pressure of the United States and Israel, creates a dangerous precedent in international relations and entails international responsibility for Costa Rica.

Ershadi stated that while the Islamic Republic of Iran has been subjected to illegal military attacks by the U.S. and Israel, and the IRGC is defending the country on behalf of the Iranian nation, Costa Rica’s action in labeling this national institution constitutes appeasement of law-breaking and complicity in the crimes committed by the U.S. and the Israeli regime.

Referring to the IRGC as a sovereign institution rooted in the Iranian nation that derives its legitimacy from the Constitution and the will of the people, Ershadi noted that its duty, alongside other armed forces, is to protect the independence, territorial integrity, and national security of the country.

She concluded that the campaign by the U.S. and the Israeli regime to force countries into labeling Iran’s armed forces will have no effect on the will of the guardians of the homeland to defend Iran’s security.

Earlier, Costa Rica designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Yemen’s Houthis as terror organizations late Wednesday night, the country’s Foreign Ministry confirmed.

The government made the decision on Monday, according to the announcement.
