WANA (Apr 08) – Iran has described Israel’s deadly attacks on Lebanon as a “heinous crime,” saying Washington bears direct responsibility.

The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the large-scale and deadly attacks carried out on Wednesday by Israel across various parts of Lebanon, calling them a “heinous and shameful crime.” According to Tehran, the strikes have left hundreds of Lebanese civilians dead or injured.

Esmaeil Baghaei, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, highlighted the humanitarian impact of the attacks, stating that targeting residential areas and killing Lebanese civilians is clear evidence of Israel’s continued aggressive approach in the region.

Baghaei also referred to a ceasefire understanding between Iran and the United States, which he said was reached through Pakistan’s mediation, emphasizing that Lebanon was included in this agreement. He stated that, based on commitments made by the U.S. government, halting hostilities on the Lebanon front was part of this ceasefire understanding between Tehran and Washington.

According to the spokesperson, as also emphasized by Pakistan’s prime minister, ending the war in Lebanon was a key component of the agreement, and today’s Israeli attacks constitute a clear violation of it.

Baghaei further warned of the “highly dangerous” consequences of Israel’s latest strikes and, pointing to civilian casualties and widespread destruction of residential areas in Lebanon, stressed the direct responsibility of the U.S. government for these developments.

In conclusion, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson extended condolences to the victims’ families, wished a speedy recovery for the injured, and expressed Tehran’s solidarity and sympathy with the government and people of Lebanon.
