Iran Condemns Israeli Attacks on Lebanon
WANA (Jul 07) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has issued a strong condemnation of what it described as a series of “military and terrorist attacks” carried out by the Israeli regime against various areas in Lebanon.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the continued violations of the ceasefire and the ongoing aggression against Lebanon represent a “blatant breach of national sovereignty and territorial integrity” of an independent state, in clear defiance of fundamental principles of international law.
Baghaei warned that these attacks are directly targeting the safety of Lebanese citizens and the country’s economic livelihood.
He also highlighted the timing of the assaults, which coincide with the summer season and Lebanon’s efforts to revive its economy through tourism. “This shows the Israeli regime’s intent to further destabilize Lebanon’s economy and disrupt the wellbeing of its people,” he said.
Criticizing the inaction of the international community, the United Nations, and Western guarantors of the ceasefire, Baghaei reiterated Iran’s warning about the dangerous consequences of continued Israeli aggression. He cautioned that the expansion of Israel’s actions poses a serious threat to the broader security and stability of the entire region.
Cross-border warfare between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024. Despite a November ceasefire, Israeli forces have conducted near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah’s activities.
Since then, Lebanese authorities have reported nearly 3,000 Israeli violations of the truce, including the deaths of at least 231 people and injuries to more than 500.
Under the ceasefire deal, which Israel violated several times, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. Israel still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
