WANA (Jul 17) – Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, has strongly condemned the massive Israeli military strikes on various parts of Syria, particularly in the capital, Damascus, describing the attacks as a grave threat to regional and international peace.

Baghaei denounced the intensification of Israeli air raids targeting public, governmental, and infrastructure facilities in Syria, while much of the country remains under occupation. He stated, “It is now evident to all that the Zionist regime is the greatest threat to peace and stability in the region.”

He added that with full military and political backing from the United States and several Western countries—notably Germany, the UK, and France—Israel is endangering global peace in an unprecedented way.

Reflecting on developments over the past two years, Baghaei emphasized that the current situation in Syria is the direct result of global silence and inaction in the face of Israel’s policies of genocide, militarism, and expansionism. He warned that the consequences of these actions extend far beyond Syria, affecting the broader region.

Baghaei concluded by stressing the shared responsibility of regional countries to preserve peace and stability. He called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations to take immediate and effective measures to halt what he described as the dangerous warmongering and expansionist agenda of the occupying regime.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated on Wednesday that the recent Israeli attacks on Syria were “predictable” and urged the international community to unite against what he described as “reckless aggression.”
