Iran Condemns U.S. and Israeli Strikes, Warns Neighbors Allowing Attacks Will Be Held Accountable
WANA (Mar 24) – Reza Dehghani, Deputy Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations in Geneva, strongly condemned the military aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and people during Tuesday’s session of the UN Conference on Disarmament.
He emphasized that Iran holds no hostility toward its neighbors, but countries allowing their territory to be used for attacks on Iran must be held accountable for the consequences.
Dehghani noted that the military aggression has now entered its 25th day, with attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure continuing. He highlighted that a growing number of innocent women and children are being killed daily due to indiscriminate strikes by the U.S. and Israeli regimes.
Dehghani stressed that the use of force should not become normalized in international relations and that no power has the right to override international law.
He also criticized the UN Security Council for adopting a political, unfair, and unbalanced resolution against Iran, saying: “By passing a resolution targeting Iran without considering General Assembly Resolution 3314 (1974) on the definition of aggression, the Security Council has failed to condemn the aggressors and those responsible for the current situation.”
The deputy representative reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, noting that Iran’s defensive actions are strictly limited to the military forces, bases, and targets of the aggressors.
He added that, in situations where neighboring countries have allowed their territory to be used for attacks on Iran, Tehran has the right under General Assembly Resolution 3314 and international law to target the origin of such attacks to halt the aggression.
Dehghani emphasized: “This war is not merely an attack on Iran; it is a blatant violation of fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter. Iran holds no hostility toward its neighbors, but countries allowing their territory to be used against Iran must be accountable for the consequences.”
He concluded by urging responsible countries and UN Security Council members to condemn the ongoing aggression and reiterated that Iran will continue to exercise its right to self-defense until security is restored and the attacks cease completely.
