WANA (Jun 06) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned a U.S. military strike targeting radar and coastal surveillance facilities in the Sirik region and on Qeshm Island, describing the attack as a blatant violation of the April 8 ceasefire and an act of aggression against the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 

According to a statement issued by the ministry, the attack took place in the early hours of Saturday, June 6, and targeted facilities responsible for safeguarding Iran’s borders and ensuring the security of international maritime navigation.

 

The ministry characterized the operation as part of Washington’s ongoing hostile and provocative policies toward the Islamic Republic, arguing that it reflects a complete disregard for the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

 

The statement added that Iran’s armed forces responded within the framework of the country’s inherent right to self-defense, acting with vigilance and determination to prevent the attackers from achieving their objectives.

 

Referring to what it described as repeated violations of the ceasefire by the United States, the Foreign Ministry said the incident demonstrates that Washington lacks any genuine commitment to de-escalation or regional stability. It warned that such actions pose serious risks to regional security and stated that the U.S. government bears full responsibility for any consequences arising from these unlawful actions, including any potential escalation of tensions.

 

Reaffirming Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, the ministry stressed that the country would use all available means and capabilities to protect its sovereignty, security, and national interests.

 

The ministry also called on neighboring countries to uphold the principle of good-neighborly relations and refrain from allowing their territory or facilities to be used by aggressor states for planning or carrying out hostile actions against Iran.

 

Concluding the statement, Iran urged the UN Secretary-General, the United Nations Security Council, and other relevant international bodies to respond promptly and effectively to what it described as the continued violation of the ceasefire and the unlawful actions of the United States.

 

It also called on the international community to prevent the normalization of violations of the UN Charter and actions that threaten regional and international peace and security.
