Iran Condemns U.S. Interference in Venezuela

WANA (Aug 09) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned what it called “interventionist positions and actions” by the United States against Venezuela, voicing solidarity with the government and people of the South American nation.

In a statement posted on the Ministry’s X (formerly Twitter) account, Tehran criticized U.S. officials for their remarks and actions regarding Venezuela’s internal affairs, saying:

“The interventionist behavior and rhetoric of U.S. officials in the internal affairs of independent countries, including Venezuela, have unprecedentedly undermined and discredited the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law.”

The statement went on to denounce Washington’s threats against Venezuela’s president, saying:

“The offensive act of threatening the legitimate president of a sovereign UN member state and leveling baseless accusations against him is a clear sign of the growing addiction of U.S. policymakers to aggressive unilateralism and coercive methods in pursuit of illegitimate foreign policy goals. No responsible country can remain indifferent to this dangerous trend, which targets the normative and moral foundations governing the United Nations.”

Concluding, the ministry reaffirmed: “Iran stands in solidarity with the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and condemns the illegal U.S. interference in the country’s internal affairs.”

The reaction comes after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Thursday a $50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Pam Bondi, in a social media post, described Maduro as a threat to U.S. national security, noting that Washington has seized over $700 million in assets linked to him, including two aircraft and nine vehicles.

The U.S. Attorney General further accused Maduro of being “one of the world’s biggest drug traffickers.”
