Iran Condemns U.S.–Israeli Interference at UN
WANA (Jan 11) – The Ambassador of Iran to the United Nations announced that Tehran strongly condemns the continued, illegal, and irresponsible conduct of the United States, in coordination with the Israeli regime, aimed at interfering in Iran’s internal affairs through threats, incitement, and the deliberate encouragement of instability and violence.
Amir Saeid Iravani, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stated in a letter to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General that Iran strongly condemns the continued, illegal, and irresponsible conduct of the United States of America, carried out in coordination with the Israeli regime, to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs through threats, incitement, and the deliberate encouragement of instability and violence.
The Iranian Ambassador wrote in his letter on Friday to the Security Council and the United Nations: No principle or rule of international law permits any state, under the guise of human rights or on the pretext of “protecting the people,” to incite violence, destabilize societies, or engineer chaos.
The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized that such claims constitute a blatant distortion of international law and cannot be used as a tool to justify coercion, threats, or interventionist policies.
The full text of the letter of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations is as follows:
“In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Further to letters dated 30 December 2025 and 2 January 2026, and pursuant to instructions from my Government, I hereby convey the strong condemnation of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the continued, illegal, and irresponsible conduct of the United States of America, in coordination with the Israeli regime, aimed at interfering in Iran’s internal affairs through threats, incitement, and the deliberate encouragement of instability and violence.
In recent days, U.S. officials—particularly the President of that country—standing shoulder to shoulder with the criminal Prime Minister of the Israeli regime and through the issuance of public statements, have portrayed Iran’s internal matters in a manner suggesting the need for foreign “intervention” to “rescue” or impose coercive political outcomes.
The behavioral coordination between the United States and the Israeli regime is evident and undeniable; through provocative statements, the transmission of political messages, and open threats, they have sought to encourage violence, support terrorist groups, incite social instability, and attempt to transform peaceful protests into violent unrest, all under labels such as “support,” “rescue,” or “protection of the Iranian people.”
However, the people of Iran are fully aware of the true meaning of such rhetoric. Decades of hostile policies against the Iranian people, including the imposition of coercive measures and unjust unilateral sanctions, have seriously violated their fundamental human rights, such as the right to life and the right to development.
This dark record was further intensified by the 12-day war of aggression launched in June 2025 by the Israeli regime, in which the United States played a central role—a war during which civilians, civilian infrastructure, and Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, which were under the supervision and safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency, were targeted, resulting in the martyrdom of more than 1,100 innocent people.
The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically and unconditionally rejects the destabilizing actions of the United States, which undermine the Charter of the United Nations, violate the fundamental principles of international law, and threaten the core foundations of international peace and security. The continuation of such conduct, if not effectively confronted, will establish a dangerous precedent and will seriously destabilize the rules-based international order upon which the United Nations is founded.
No principle or rule of international law permits any state, under the guise of human rights or on the pretext of “protecting the people,” to incite violence, destabilize societies, or engineer chaos. Such claims constitute a blatant distortion of international law and cannot be used as a tool to justify coercion, threats, or interventionist policies.
Article 2, paragraph 4, of the Charter of the United Nations prohibits Member States from the threat or use of force in international relations against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state; Article 2, paragraph 7, also categorically prohibits any intervention in matters that are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any Member State.
These obligations are binding and not optional. Furthermore, international law stipulates that no state may directly or indirectly intervene in the internal or external affairs of another state, including through incitement, the use of violence, or destabilization of its constitutional order.
Moreover, under the rules governing the international responsibility of states, whenever the actions of a state foreseeably result in serious harm, that state bears international responsibility. When senior officials of a Member State violate the fundamental principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other Member States, openly encourage unrest, legitimize the escalation of violence, and convey explicit messages implying external support for confrontation or threats of the use of force, the resulting damages are neither accidental nor incidental; rather, they are deliberate and foreseeable.
The transformation of peaceful protests into violent, subversive actions and the widespread destruction of public property is a direct and foreseeable consequence of such policies, and full responsibility for their outcomes and repercussions rests explicitly and without any doubt with the United States of America.
I would be grateful if you would arrange for the present correspondence to be registered and circulated as a document of the Security Council. I avail myself of this opportunity to renew the assurances of my highest consideration.”
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations also wrote on its official account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “The evil plot of the U.S. government and the Zionist regime to divide Iran and engineer a civil war will be neutralized by the national unity of the Iranian government and people, and its disgrace will remain with them.”
