Iran Condemns U.S. Threats, Calls on UN Security Council to Act
WANA (Jan 29) – Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has reportedly called on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to take decisive action in response to recent statements by the U.S. President, which he described as explicit threats of military action against Iran.
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani, characterized the remarks as a serious violation of the UN Charter and warned that such actions contribute to regional instability and heighten the risk of conflict.
The letter reportedly highlighted a post by the U.S. President on January 28, 2026, in which he stated that a large U.S. naval fleet, led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, was moving toward Iran and could take military action if deemed necessary.
Iran described these statements as provocative, irresponsible, and contrary to international law, emphasizing that threats of force against a sovereign state violate Article 2, paragraph 4 of the UN Charter.
According to the envoy, the pattern of U.S. behavior—including pressure, intimidation, and covert operations—represents an ongoing attempt to destabilize Iran and undermines regional and international security.
The letter reportedly reiterated Iran’s commitment to the UN Charter while stressing its right to self-defense under international law in the event of any aggression, noting that any consequences of defensive measures would be the responsibility of the United States.
Iran is said to have urged the UN Secretary-General and Security Council members to formally condemn any threats or use of force by the U.S. against Iran, remind Washington of its obligations under the UN Charter, and take steps to halt all destabilizing measures targeting Iran. The envoy requested that the correspondence be officially registered and circulated as a Security Council document.

Iran Condemns Israel’s Ceasefire Violations in Gaza at UN
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, in separate speech also reportedly condemned Israel for continuing to violate the October 2025 ceasefire in Gaza, imposing a humanitarian blockade, and targeting aid organizations, saying the regime acts with impunity. He emphasized Iran’s support for credible initiatives to end Palestinian suffering, establish a permanent ceasefire, and secure Palestinian rights.
Iravani reportedly criticized Israel’s illegal settlement expansion in the West Bank and said ongoing impunity reinforces a culture of unaccountability. He also accused Israel, with alleged U.S. support, of orchestrating unrest in Iran, resulting in civilian and security force casualties.
Iran reportedly stressed that while ending the Gaza conflict is vital, perpetrators of war crimes must be held accountable, and it rejected false claims by Israeli, Latvian, and Canadian representatives, calling on Security Council members to act responsibly and uphold UN principles.
