Iran Condemns U.S. Veto of UN Gaza Ceasefire Resolution
WANA (Jun 05) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned the United States for vetoing a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to genocide in Gaza, describing the move as continued American complicity in the crimes of the Israeli regime.
Baghaei noted that the resolution had the support of 14 out of 15 Council members, with only the United States voting against it. He said the U.S. veto represents a blatant affront to the will of the international community and regional populations seeking an end to Israeli atrocities.
He further described it as evidence of a moral decline in American leadership and a clear sign of its partnership in the killing of civilians and children in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Baghaei also recalled the U.S.’s long-standing record of blocking meaningful Security Council action to hold Israel accountable. He stated that over the past decades, Washington has used its veto power more than 50 times to shield Israel from accountability, thereby enabling the continuation of occupation and colonial genocide. He stressed that this has placed the United States in the position of a direct accomplice to Israeli crimes.
The Iranian spokesman called on all governments and international organizations to fulfill their responsibility in addressing war crimes and acts of genocide committed by Israel.
He urged countries, especially those in the region and the Islamic world, to utilize all individual and collective capacities to pressure Israel and its supporters into halting the bloodshed in Gaza and confronting the growing threat the Israeli regime poses to regional and global peace and security.
