WANA (Jul 23) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement strongly condemning the recent decision by the new British administration to permit the United States to utilize UK military bases and facilities to facilitate military actions against Iran.

 

Tehran stated that the move explicitly violates the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. Citing Paragraph (f) of Article 3 of UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 on the definition of aggression, the ministry warned that providing such facilities constitutes an act of aggression against Iran.

 

According to the statement, British policymakers are fully aware that ongoing US military attacks—launched in conjunction with the Israeli regime—represent a clear aggression and a flagrant breach of international peremptory norms. The ministry emphasized that any participation or assistance in preparing or executing these illegal strikes amounts to complicity in acts of aggression and war crimes.

 

The foreign ministry further criticized London for failing to uphold its legal and moral obligations as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Instead of condemning external military aggression, the ministry noted, the UK government has aligned itself with aggressors, thereby undermining its own claims of supporting the rule of law, human rights, and international peace and security.

 

Highlighting a legacy of historical grievances, the statement pointed to past UK interventions in Iranian affairs—ranging from the 1953 coup d’état and support for Saddam Hussein’s regime during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war to unilateral sanctions, backing the UN “snapback” mechanism, and the recent designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

 

Concluding the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Iran’s determination to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security against foreign aggression, warning that any state assisting or participating in military actions against Iran will be held fully responsible for the consequences of its decisions.
