WANA (Aug 28) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Friday, August 28, strongly condemning recent US financial measures as a form of “economic terrorism” and state-sponsored aggression aimed at both Iran and the international community.

 

The ministry emphasized the Iranian nation’s resolve to utilize all available capabilities to defend the homeland against what it described as an American-Zionist military, economic, and hybrid war.

 

US Economic Exclusion Operations Called State Terrorism

According to the official statement, the US administration launched a new wave of economic measures titled the “Economic Exclusion Operation” on Monday, August 24, continuing its hostile and illegal policies toward Iran. Tehran categorized this campaign as an act of US state terrorism with global ramifications.

 

The ministry asserted that Washington’s weaponization of the US dollar to intimidate sovereign states violates international law, national sovereignty, and the principle of self-determination guaranteed under the United Nations Charter.

 

Violations of International Law and UN Declarations

The foreign ministry argued that the unilateral sanctions constitute a grave breach of the UN Charter, specifically violating principles of non-intervention and interstate cooperation.

 

The statement cited key international frameworks, including Paragraph 2(k) of the Declaration on the Inadmissibility of Intervention and Interference in the Internal Affairs of States (UN Resolution 36/103) and the Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Co-operation among States (UN Resolution 2625).

 

Iran warned that US and Israeli actions over the past year and a half under unfounded pretexts set a dangerous precedent for international lawlessness, threatening regional and global peace while putting modern human civilization at unprecedented risk due to the inaction of the international community.

 

Human Rights Violations and ICJ Rulings

Tehran further classified the Economic Exclusion Operation as a crime against humanity, stating that the deliberate targeting of the economic welfare of civilians infringes upon fundamental human rights, including Article 1, Paragraph 2 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

 

Additionally, the ministry noted that the measures contravene the October 3, 2018 ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which ordered the US to remove barriers to trade involving humanitarian goods, agricultural products, medicine, medical equipment, and civil aviation safety equipment.

 

Call to Action for International Compliance

Iran urged all sovereign nations and UN bodies to reject and refuse enforcement of the US sanctions regime:

 

Non-Recognition: All states are obligated to withhold recognition or confirmation of the conditions created by these illegal measures.

 

Prohibition of Complicity: Assisting in the enforcement of unilateral US sanctions constitutes complicity in undermining the sovereign equality of UN member states.

 

Collective Responsibility: The international community must take active steps to safeguard the rule of law and preserve the principles of the UN Charter.
