WANA (Sep 02) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the US military attacks on Iran on Tuesday evening, September 1, 2026, reaffirming the Islamic Republic’s determination to firmly defend the country’s independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 2, the ministry said the United States, which it accused of being unable to overcome the Iranian people’s determination to defend their country, had once again violated Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity by striking several civilian areas and service infrastructure, including a number of telecommunications towers and sites in the provinces of Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman.

 

According to the statement, the attacks resulted in the deaths and injuries of a number of Iranian citizens and caused damage to public and private property.

 

The Foreign Ministry also said that more than 70 people were killed or injured in a US strike on a wedding ceremony in Kouhestak, in Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, adding that most of those affected were women and children.

 

The ministry described the attacks as “war crimes” and a grave violation of fundamental principles of international law. It also linked the incidents to previous US-Israeli attacks over the past 18 months, including incidents in Minab and Lamerd.

 

In response to the US military offensive, the ministry said, Iran’s armed forces, exercising their “inherent right to self-defense,” carried out what it described as forceful defensive strikes against US military bases that had served as launching points and support facilities for the attacks against Iran.

 

The Foreign Ministry also called on regional countries to prevent the United States from using their territory and facilities to plan and carry out military operations against Iran. It urged regional governments to help prevent the conflict from continuing and expanding, warning against what it described as a US-Israeli effort to impose permanent insecurity on the region.

 

The ministry expressed condolences to the families of those killed and stressed that all states have a responsibility to pursue, prosecute and punish those responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law.

 

It further called on the United Nations, particularly the Security Council and the UN secretary-general, to fulfill their responsibilities under the UN Charter.

 

The statement warned that continued silence and inaction by UN bodies in response to what Tehran described as repeated violations of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter — particularly Article 2(4) — by a permanent member of the Security Council would further undermine the credibility of the United Nations and pose an increasing threat to international peace and security.
