WANA (Aug 09) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran is currently conducting negotiations with Oman to define a new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the discussions are progressing well and reaching their final stages.

 

Speaking on the ongoing diplomatic and technical efforts, Araghchi noted that technical experts are actively working to replace legacy maritime channels with new designated routes. However, he emphasized that establishing these routes does not automatically signal a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

 

“While an agreement may be reached, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz remains contingent on a series of conditions that have been communicated through intermediaries,” Araghchi stated.

 

Addressing bilateral relations with Washington, the Foreign Minister confirmed that Tehran is not currently holding direct negotiations with the United States. He added that indirect message exchanges through third-party channels are ongoing to explore potential grounds for resuming talks.

 

Araghchi maintained a firm stance on pre-conditions for diplomatic engagement, emphasizing that direct dialogue will remain off the table until Washington addresses previous agreement violations.

 

“From our perspective, restarting negotiations is impossible until the U.S. ceases its violations of the memorandum of understanding and compensates for its non-compliance,” he concluded.
