Iran Crowned World Champion in Freestyle Wrestling with Two Historic Golds in Zagreb
WANA (Sep 16) – Iranian wrestlers delivered a dazzling performance at the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, marking another golden night for the nation’s sport.
In the 65kg category, Rahman Amouzad showcased his dominance by defeating opponents from Kyrgyzstan, the United States, India, and Iran on his way to the final. There, he faced Kotaro Kiyooka of Japan, securing a decisive 10–0 victory. The win not only earned him the gold medal but also avenged his Olympic defeat against the Japanese wrestler.

In the heavyweight 125kg division, Amirhossein Zare claimed Iran’s second gold medal after a series of commanding victories.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Mohammadnejad Javan won silver in the 61kg weight class, and three other Iranian wrestlers—Mohammad Nokhodi, Kamran Ghasempour, and Amirhossein Firoozpour—each earned bronze.
With two golds, one silver, and three bronze medals, Team Iran topped the standings in Croatia, reaffirming its place at the summit of world wrestling.
