WANA (May 11) – Iran’s Environmental Protection Organization (EPO) has officially identified the cause of recent oil pollution near Kharg Island, dismissing reports of infrastructure failure.

Following conflicting reports in domestic and international media that sparked public concern, the EPO conducted a technical field investigation.

The agency confirmed that the contamination originated from the discharge of oily ballast water from a damaged tanker that had previously encountered issues near the Strait of Hormuz.

The EPO emphasized that there have been no leaks or spills reported from the pipelines, terminal facilities, or offshore platforms operated by the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) in the region.

The organization stated it is currently monitoring the situation 24/7 using satellite imagery and on-site expert inspections. In collaboration with local companies, the EPO is actively implementing measures to manage and contain the environmental impact.
