Iran Declares EU Navies and Air Forces “Terrorist” in Reciprocal Move
WANA (Feb 20) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued an official statement on February 21, 2026, outlining the country’s position regarding the recent action by the member states of the European Union. This statement comes in direct response to the EU’s decision on February 19, 2026, which designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity.
The statement emphasizes that, from Iran’s perspective, the EU’s action is illegal and contrary to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and established norms of international law, as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an official and integral part of Iran’s armed forces.
The Foreign Ministry further stated that, based on the principle of “reciprocal action” and Iran’s domestic law, including the 2019 Reciprocal Action Law concerning the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization by the United States of America, Iran is compelled to respond with proportional legal measures.
Accordingly, and given the EU member states’ support of this decision, Iran designates the naval and air forces of all EU countries as terrorist entities under this reciprocal framework.
The statement concludes by underlining that the full political, legal, and international consequences of this decision rest with the EU member states. Iran urges these countries to reconsider their stance, adhere to their international obligations, and avoid escalating tensions in international relations.
