Iran Declares Human Rights Week to Counter Western Hypocrisy
WANA (Jul 02) – The Secretary-General of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Youth Organization for Human Rights stated that the early July has been designated as “Human Rights Week” to prevent the West from misusing this term. He argued that Western powers approach human rights with a political agenda and remain silent in the face of crimes and violations against nations.
Speaking at the 10th International Human Rights Conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Amin Ansari referred to the viewpoint of the Supreme Leader of Iran on human rights and said the naming of this week aims to stop the appropriation of the concept by Western countries.
He added that in recent days, Iran has witnessed the assassination of its scientists, commanders, and innocent civilians. However, Iran’s armed forces have delivered a decisive response to the Israeli regime.
Ansari explained that the Islamic Revolution has always pursued two core objectives: securing national independence and resisting American dominance. He noted that after the Revolution’s victory, foreign powers were no longer able to plunder Iran’s resources.
He also recalled that in the early days of the Revolution, students took over the U.S. embassy in Tehran and obtained documents proving America’s deep interference in Iran’s internal affairs—interference that had held the country back for decades. According to Ansari, the slogan “Down with USA” is a rejection of the country’s oppressive and imperialist policies—not the people themselves.
The Secretary-General also described the Israeli regime as a “cancerous tumor,” saying its numerous crimes have made life unbearable for the Palestinian people. He emphasized that Iran has always stood by Palestine and will never abandon its support.
In conclusion, Ansari stressed that the United States seeks to force Iran into submission. However, thanks to the wise leadership of the Supreme Leader and the steadfastness of the Iranian people, this will never happen. “Today, we are witnessing the decline of American power and that of its allies—a path that will continue through the efforts of the Resistance Front.”

Each year from June 27 to July 3, Iran observes “American Human Rights Review Week”—a national initiative launched by the Supreme Leader to expose the true nature of U.S. human rights claims. This week is marked by commemorating events in which the U.S. played a direct or indirect role in major tragedies, including:
- The failed assassination attempt on Ayatollah Khamenei on June 27 , 1981.
- The terrorist bombing of the Islamic Republic Party headquarters on June 28 , 1981, which killed Ayatollah Beheshti and 72 others.
- The chemical bombing of the city of Sardasht onJune 28 , 1987, which killed over 110 civilians, including women and children.
- The downing of Iran Air Flight 655 by a U.S. Navy warship on July 3, 1988, killing all 290 passengers aboard.
These events are remembered as clear examples of America’s violations of human rights, committed under the banner of defending democracy and freedom.
