WANA (Jun 23) – Following the illegal and criminal military aggression by the United States against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, the Islamic Republic of Iran has lodged a formal and strong protest with the U.S. Interests Section in Tehran.

Issa Kameli, Assistant to the Foreign Minister and Director General for the Americas at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered the note of protest to Ms. Nadine Lozano, the Swiss Ambassador to Iran, who represents U.S. interests in the country. The note, addressed to U.S. authorities, was handed over for immediate transmission.

The protest note strongly condemned the U.S. military attack, explicitly acknowledged by the U.S. President, and described it as a blatant violation of the UN Charter, fundamental principles of international law, the nuclear non-proliferation regime, UN Security Council Resolution 2231, and international regulations prohibiting any attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities.

Kameli emphasized Iran’s inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, stating that the United States bears full political, legal, and international responsibility for the consequences of this act of aggression.

The Swiss Ambassador assured Iranian officials that the protest note would be promptly conveyed to U.S. authorities.
