WANA ( May 30) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Austrian intelligence agency’s false accusations questioning the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, and called on the Austrian government to provide an official explanation for what he described as an irresponsible, provocative, and destructive act by an official institution of that country.

In a media statement, Esmail Baghaei labeled the claims made by Austria’s intelligence agency as baseless and fabricated, saying they were aimed solely at fueling media propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran and therefore lack any credibility or substantiation.

Referring to Iran’s membership in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the well-known fact that its nuclear program is subject to the most rigorous inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the spokesperson asserted that such behavior by Austria’s intelligence body undermines the IAEA’s credibility.

He further emphasized that, unlike Austria and some other European countries that hypocritically remain silent about Israel’s possession of weapons of mass destruction and provide full support to this occupying and aggressive regime—thereby obstructing the realization of a WMD-free Middle East—Iran has consistently opposed nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction and remains a firm initiator and advocate of the idea of a WMD-free West Asia.

Baghaei once again denounced the disinformation spread by Austria’s intelligence service and reiterated Iran’s demand for an official explanation from the Austrian government regarding this reckless and damaging conduct by one of its state institutions.
