Iran Denies Allegations Against Ambassador to Armenia
WANA (Aug 31) – The Press Office of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baku has dismissed claims published by the Azerbaijani news outlet regarding Iran’s ambassador to Armenia.
In its official response to the outlet, the embassy described as “baseless and false” the allegations that Ambassador Mehdi Subhani was tasked with supporting separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh or providing military assistance to the Armenian government.
The embassy also reaffirmed Iran’s consistent position in support of a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, stressing that the claims published were mere speculation and unfounded assumptions by the article’s author.
The Azerbaijani outlet had earlier reported on the end of Ambassador Subhani’s mission in Yerevan, alleging that he backed the separatist administration in Nagorno-Karabakh and fueled separatist sentiment against Azerbaijan. The report also claimed that Iran had guaranteed military support to Armenia, including the supply of weapons.
